Every year the Harris Band Presents three concerts that are held at HMS Auditorium: First Performance (6th Grade Beginning Band), Winter Concert and Spring Concert.
Concert Performance Assessment
The Harris Middle School have historically attended the MTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment and received very high ratings. This year’s concert performance assessment will be held in March for middle school bands at Middle Tennessee State University. You will receive more information about this activity at a later date.
Solo and Ensemble Festival
This is an individual learning activity for the student. Students prepare and perform for an adjudicator and receive a rating. This mean band students who wish to participate will prepare a solo or ensemble for the actual event with the idea that they will register and perform their selection for an MTSBOA adjudicator. Students will perform their music for the director prior to participating in the event. As the director reserve the right to prevent the student from participating if it determine that they are unprepared. The Solo and Ensemble fee is non-refundable.
All Mid State Band and Jazz Band
Students may choose to audition for Mid-State Honor Band. This is required for all Symphonic Band members. The Mid-State Jazz Band and Orchestra auditions will be Dec __, 2015. Students who are selected will spend a weekend rehearsing and performing with the finest band members from Middle Tennessee. This is one of the biggest honors for a Middle Tennessee middle school band student. Auditions consist of major scales, a chromatic scale, prepared music, and sight-reading. Go to www.mtsboa.org for an easy to read print out of every note required for every scale. I have all required music for all instruments available for you. Students that are prepared and audition for Mid-State will be giving a 100 for 2 points playing test for that six week. Students who would like to audition are encouraged to take private lessons and begin preparation in early Fall. Being selected to the Mid-State Band is the highest honor a band student can receive in our area. All State status often bring with it college scholarship. Get started early!
Tri-Lakes Honor Band
Certain students will also be selected to audition for the Tri-Lakes Honor Band which usually takes place in January.
Performance Dress
For concert performances, students are asked to report to the middle school in concert attire. Boys and girls are asked that they wear black slacks or dress pants, black socks, and black dress shoes with band polo shirt.
For pep band and drumline performances, students should wear their band shirt with jeans.
